What is Breast Implant Illness (BII)?
Breast Implant Illnesses (BII) may have been undiagnosed before the breast implant surgery.
Because the body regards the implants as foreign bodies, its defence system attempts to protect you from them, viewing them as dangerous.
Symptoms
BII can present with some of these symptoms:
- Chronic fatigue
- Low grade fever
- Weight changes
- Joint pain
- Muscle pain
- Brain fog, memory issues
- Sleep disturbance
- Dry eyes and dry mouth
- Anxiety
- Depression
You may have been diagnosed with:
Sjogren’s syndrome
This illness could be undiagnosed before you have breast implants and then triggered by your body’s response to the implants.
Hashimoto’s
Some women with Hashimoto’s may develop BII / ASIA because the implant is a foreign body.
The symptoms are the same as other autoimmune conditions triggered by breast implants.
Lyme disease or Lupus
Each patient’s needs will be different, so an individually tailored treatment approach should be requested.

Aftercare is not an optional extra. It is part of safe surgery. If something feels wrong, you deserve to be assessed, listened to and given a clear plan. Trust your body, write things down, and ask for help early.
